Music 103: Arctic Monkeys

Cure your summertime blues with some lovely lyrics and tantalizing tunes.

What do you get when you take 4 boys from Sheffield, England, add in fantastic musical ability and marvelous writing skills, and then, for fun, toss in incredibly good looks?
There's a simple answer to this one: My favorite band. It's Arctic Monkeys.
I can not explain my love for this band in words.

Formed in 2002, Arctic Monkeys consists of:
- Alex Turner, lead singer, guitarist, and my personal favorite.
- Nick O'Malley, monster bass player, and back up vocalist
- Jamie Cook, guitar extraordinaire.
- Matt Helders, drummer and backup vocalist.

The band fresh out of England is labeled as alternative/indie rock and post-punk, and is signed by Domino Records.
Sheffield's finest released Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not (2006), Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), and Humbug (2009). They are working on a new album which is scheduled to be released around 2011. (I am thoroughly excited for it! :D)

The band recently went on tour from 2009-2010 to promote Humbug. They were joined by guest Sleepy Sun. I had the privilege of seeing them live. Let me just tell you. They were absolutely fantastic. They energy was exhilarating, and the sounded as good, if not better, than they did recorded. You can tell that the Arctic Monkeys
really love their music, and the passion behind it all is refreshing. Alex Turner's strong voice, and poetic lyrics will capture you in a second.

If you like: The Last Shadow Puppets,The White Stripes, Mongreal, The Beatles, The Who, Franz Ferdinand, Kings of Leon, The Killers, OK GO, Nirvana, Phoenix, The Hives.
You'll like Arctic Monkeys.

Check these out: "Flourescent Adolescent", "Fake Tales of San Francisco", "A Certain Romance", "From The Ritz To The Rubble", "505", and "I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor"

Rating: 100000/10.

This band is sure to please everyone. If you can't find at least one song you like, you might want to see a doctor, because there is something surely wrong with you.
