Poetry 131: Wasted Youth

Danielle

Wasted Youth

We are the disparaged youth
And we haunt your streets
Corrupt and unmoved.

"Here's your future"
If you can even call it that.
Repent, the end is near.

We don't flinch in frustration.
We don't blink at destruction.
We can't comprehend real disaster.

Prozac for this one, Ambien for that one.
Until your mind stops running laps.
The less we think or feel, the better.

Cold and clammy
With an ache in my side.
All I can do is sleep it off.

Extremities tingle
And senses dull
Eyes glaze over.

Clocks running down.
Live fast, die young
Leave a pretty corpse.

This was written by one of my best friends, Taylor. The first time I read it, I really loved it, so I really wanted to share with you. I hope that you like it as much as I do!

  3. glad you took 'we are the disparaged youth and we haunt your streets' from my work- is this a collaboration of other people's work? meant to be ironic, maybe? or you just don't have a poetic bone in your body?
