Poetry 102: Where The Sidewalk Ends

On today's agenda is Where The Sidewalk Ends, a collection of poems and drawings by Shel Silverstein. My parents would always read me these poems as a little kid. I remember when doing a poetry unit in third grade where we needed to memorize and recite a poem each week, and I would always use one of his. And as much as I enjoyed Silverstein's poems then, I still do now as well. His poems are delightful, funny, whimsical, and just plain fun to read, especially with the wonderful accompanying illustrations. I suppose I shall give you a taste of some of my favorite poems from Where The Sidewalk Ends.

These are only a few out of 166 pages of poems and drawings. So if you've liked these so far, you would definitely enjoy the rest of the book. If by then you still have not quenched your Silverstein thirst, there are a quite a few other works by him for you to delve into, including his second collection of poems and drawings called A Light in the Attic, as well as his children's book The Giving Tree, which is one of his most most well known titles.

I hope that these poems could bring a little brightness to your day! Happy reading!
